Thin and Inexpensive Netbooks Affect PC Industry – NYTimes.com
“Intel and Microsoft warn that consumers should remain skeptical about the performance of a computer that costs less than $300.”
translation: Microsoft cannot sustain its monopoly position or produce software that performs decently unless you buy $500 worth of hardware.
solution: Google Apps, 37signals, DabbleDB, 280 Slides, Zoho, etc, etc. Or build your own on top of Ubuntu’s upcoming, built-in, cloud capabilities.
We dont have to pay $500 for hardware just to run our $500 software anymore. The web has already won the platform wars. Just keep your document formats based on open standards, and we all win.
